Export Your Chats is designed so there is very little to describe here: nothing about your conversation is kept.
Draft copy. This page describes the intended behaviour of the product and requires legal review before publication.
Conversations are not stored
Retrieval is stateless. A share page is fetched, converted to a normalized thread, returned to your browser, and discarded from memory when the request ends. There is no conversation database and no archive to request deletion from.
Share IDs and conversation text are not logged
Request logs exclude the share identifier and every part of the conversation body. A failed retrieval records the failure type only — never the link that produced it.
Generated files stay on your device
Markdown, JSON, CSV, plain text, HTML, and the print layout used for PDF are produced in your browser from data already loaded on the page. Those files are never uploaded anywhere.
Minimal operational metadata
To keep the service running we record coarse, non-identifying signals: request counts, response times, and error rates. This data cannot be linked back to a conversation or a person.
No content is used for advertising or model training
Conversation content is never shared with analytics providers, advertisers, or any third party, and is never used to train anything.
A share link is public
Anyone holding the URL can open it, including us while retrieving it. Treat a share link as published material and avoid creating one for a conversation you would not be comfortable making public.
Revoke links after exporting
Once your file is saved, delete the share link from the shared links settings in ChatGPT. Your downloaded file is unaffected.
